Podcast placement

podcast guesting · earned audio

Definition

Podcast placement is a guest appearance or earned mention on someone else’s show. When no fee bought the seat, it is earned audio. When a “sponsor host-read” sits in the same episode, split the invoice from the interview.

Audio is thin for SEO unless a transcript is indexed. It is thick for trust in categories where buyers listen on commutes. Ask for the transcript URL and the show notes link in the booking email.

How it works

Pitch the host with one story, not a bio. Prepare three timed answers. After the episode, log the URL, the timestamp, the transcript, and whether show notes link out. Transcribe on your newsroom if they will not.

Worked example

A 38-minute interview on a logistics show: show-notes link to the methods page (follow), YouTube upload with auto-transcript, 2,400 unique downloads in week one. The clip is earned. A $4,000 host-read in episode 12 is paid.

How it differs

A contributed article is text on a site. Media training covers the interview. This is the booked audio slot. Shared media is what listeners do after.

Common errors

Paying for a “guest fee” and filing it as earned. No transcript. Pitching a true-crime host your SaaS launch.
