Newsroom
press center · media center
Definition
Newsroom is the owned hub where journalists, and now crawlers, find releases, kits, contacts, and the canonical story. It is not a graveyard of PDFs. If the page is noindex, blocked, or six years stale, digital PR is pitching into a hole.
Treat it as a product: stable URLs, HTML not only PDF, dates, bylines, and a working press email or phone.
How it works
Publish the live release at a permanent path. Redirect old CMS junk. Include leadership bios that match schema. Do not require a login to read public news. Link studies to methods pages.
Worked example
After an incident, the newsroom holds the 4:05 p.m. statement, the 9 p.m. update, and the postmortem. Reporters quote it. Perplexity cites it. A PDF emailed only to customers leaves both of them with a competitor’s recap.
How it differs
A media kit lives in the newsroom. A press release is an item in it. Owned media is the class. The newsroom is the index.
Common errors
JavaScript-only posts that crawlers never see. “Coming soon” contact forms. Deleting releases after a rebrand instead of redirecting.
