WordPress 5.1 Beta 1 is out. WordPress 5.1’s full release is due on February 21st, a little over a month from now, and there are some notable changes. WordPress 5.1 includes a site health check function with can identify and pause problem code so you can get into your WordPress admin panel to resolve the issue. It also includes a PHP version warning if you are using a version pre PHP 5.6 which will be the minimum PHP version for WordPress in April of this year.

If you are waiting until WordPress 5 had some more maturity, then this release, when it comes out in February, might be worth testing out. It is likely the version we will recommend our clients.

Over on WPTavern, there is a post that talks about how Elementor has acquired Layers WP. This provides Elementor with almost a dozen new themes that they can use to promote their page builder tool. This seems like a smart acquisition to me.

On the PressTitan blog, hey… that’s our blog! We have a post written by P.J. Aitken working to prove Matt’s $10 billion dollar WordPress economy estimate. He talks about Automattic, Envato, WordPress agencies and more. It definitely looks like Matt wasn’t underestimating things when you think about how much money is being moved around thanks to WordPress. If you are on our blog, I recommend checking out the other post by P.J. that covers why website loading speed matters.

That’s it for today’s WP Minute, thank you all for watching.
